The Chilean government has in recent years social protest of the Mapuche with a policy of criminalization responding. As a result, dozens of Mapuche were thrown into prison because of alleged "terrorist acts" had been found guilty. The two-hundred-year celebration of independence from Spain now has one of the deepest wounds of Chile disclosed - that the relationship to the peoples who originally inhabited the land. Although government and the press tried to hide the wound: The celebration could not pass over the old wound.
